Obituaries
Dylin Edward Jones
Dylin Edward Jones, infant son of Brittany Dawn Jones of
Sikeston, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Missouri Delta Medical
Center in Sikeston.
In addition to his mother, survivors include; maternal
grandparents, Ronald Jones of Poplar Bluff, and Rachel Turner and Albert Swinney
of Sikeston; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Grave side services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Dogwood Cemetery
with Bro. Bill Martin officiating. Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie was in
charge of arrangements.
Linda Sutton services held
Linda Carol Vinson Sutton, 65, a resident of East Prairie,
passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 3:10 a.m. at her home following a long
battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
She was born August 12, 1942 in Hickman County, Kentucky,
daughter of the late James Henry and Nina Ferguson Vinson. Linda lived most of
her life in Dorena, moving to East Prairie seven years ago and was employed by
the East Prairie Nutrition Center for 13 years. She was the East Prairie Chamber
of Commerce’s Woman of the Year in 2006. She was a member of the Dorena Baptist
Church. On December 21, 1962 at East Prairie she married John H. Sutton, who
survives of the home.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four sons and
three daughters-in-law, Hoyt Sutton, Craig and Jennifer Sutton, Benjie and Nikki
Sutton and Chris and Cassie Sutton, all of East Prairie; one brother, Leslie
Joseph Vinson and his wife, Annette, of Fulton, Kentucky; 13 grand-children; and
a host of relatives and many friends.
brother, James Vinson, preceded Linda in death.
Funeral services were con-ducted Monday, July 28, 2008 at 2
p.m. in the Shelby Funeral Home Chapel in East Prairie with Bro. Thomas Griffin
officiating. Burial followed in the East Prairie Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Chucky At-kinson, Shane Golightly, Josh,
Jamie and Joey Vinson and Denver Wolford.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the East Prairie
Nutrition Center, East Prairie.
Kerry Lee Parr services
Funeral services for Kerry Lee Parr, 48, were held on Friday,
July 18, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Shelby Funeral Home Chapel in East Prairie with
Bro. Scott Sutton officiating. Burial followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.
Mr. Parr, a resident of More-house, passed away Wednesday,
July 16, 2008 at his home.
He was born October 15, 1959 in St. Louis, son of Naomi Ruth
Parr of Morehouse and the late Clarence Russell Parr. Mr Parr was employed at
Rowe Furniture and was of the Baptist faith.
On February 10, 1994 he married Phyllis Lackey, who survives
of the home.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by four
sons and two daughters-in-law, Kerry and Shlanda Parr, Jr. of More-house, Paul
and Kelly Barnes of Sikeston, Greg Barnes of Cana-lou, Aaron Barnes of
Morehouse; two brothers, Tim and Gary Parr, both of Morehouse; two sisters, Ruth
Ann Helmes of Matthews, Sharon Rowell of Morehouse; five grandchildren; and a
host of relatives and many friends.
One brother, Terry Parr preceded Kerry in death.
Pallbearers were: Timmy Parr, Eric Lambert, Jay Stewart, Brad Grubbs, Glen
Allen Helmes, Jr., and Donald Ray Cruse.
Rose Mary Simpson
Rose Mary Simpson, 60, a resident of Sikeston, died July 26,
2008 at her residence. She was born June 20, 1948 in Diehlstadt, daughter of the
late Climmie and Cora Bryant Carter.
She was a member of Opportunity Church of God in Christ in
Charleston and had worked as a nurse’s aide for VNA.
She was united in marriage to Odell Simpson who preceded her
in death.
She is survived by three sons, Willie Simpson of Milwaukee,
Wisc., Scottie Simpson of Sikeston and Paul Simpson of Cape Girardeau, six
daughters and one son-in-law, Della Johnson and Eather Simpson of Gary, Ind.,
Lori and Clarence Kimble, Kimberly Simpson, Sierra Simpson and Senegal Simpson
of Sikeston; three brothers, Annannais Carter and Climmie Carter of Gary, and
Chorice Carter of Charleston, three sisters, Juanita Carter of Gary, and Vessie
Blevins and Martha Carter of Chicago Heights, Ill., 33 grandchildren, 10
great-grandchildren, and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
friends.
Friends may call Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 11:00 a.m.
until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Opportunity Church of God in Christ in
Charleston with the pastor, Elder Steve Betts officiating.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston with Williams
Funeral Sikeston in charge of arrangements.
Audrey Elizabeth Farrenburg Feezor
Audrey Elizabeth Farrenburg Feezor, 94, died at 8:45 p.m.,
Sunday, July 27, 2008 at her home in Charleston.
She was born September 17, 1913 in the Farrenburg Community
of New Madrid County, daughter of the late Eugene and Hattie Mary Ross
Farrenburg. She had lived in Mississippi County most of her life where she was a
longtime member of the Gravel Ridge Baptist Church until its closing, at which
time she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Charleston.
On December 21, 1941, she married Marshall Mose Feezor, who
preceded her in death on December 16, 1974.
Surviving are: one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Ruth Ann
Feezor of Charleston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Mac McAfee of
East Prairie and Faye and Jay Bledsoe of Sikeston; one sister, Lois Russell of
the Dogwood Community; six grandchildren, Cindy (Kyle) Duke of Charleston;
LaDonna (Mark) Todd of Londen,Ontario, Canada; Teresa (Brad) Forbes of
Gainesville, Fla.; Steve (Jenni) McAfee of Millersville, MD; Beth (Scott)
Reynolds and Jennifer Bledsoe, all of Sikeston; three great-grandchildren Jacob
Reynolds, Eli Reynolds and Zachary Reynolds, all of Sikeston.
She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Ross Feezor, four
brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday,
July 31, 2008, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston with Rev. Ted
Wimberley, pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church near Charleston, officiating.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the
direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Eddie Barnhill, Rick Smoot, Mark Todd,
Steven Todd, Kyle Duke, and Scott Reynolds.

Danny Wayne Presson
Danny Wayne Presson, 65, a resident of East Prairie, passed
away Monday, July 28, 2008 at 8:40 a.m. at his residence.
Born September 29, 1942 in St. Louis to Marjorie Horton
Presson of East Prairie and the late Lowell Wayne Presson, he lived in East
Prairie most of his life. He was employed at Burkhart Mfg. in Cairo and later by
the Community Sheltered Workshop in Sikeston until ill health forced him to
retire on October 26, 2007. He was a member of the Nelson United Methodist
Church in East Prairie.
In addition to his mother, he survived by one nephew, Nick
Presson of Denver, Colorado; and a host of relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were con-ducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July
30 in the Shelby Funeral Home Chapel in East Prairie with Bro. Dan Usher
officiating. Burial followed in the Dogwood Cemetery
Pallbearers will be Jim Bishop, Andrew Ambrose, Joe Sorrells, Mike Hogan,
Bill Ponder and Dr. Jim Heath. Honorary pallbearer Micheal Del Rial.
Gregory Scot Edwards
AVA, ILLINOIS - Gregory Scot Edwards, 31, of Ava, passed away
at 6:20 P.M. Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Barnes - Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born December 26, 1976 in Chester, Illinois, the son
of Thomas Eugene Edwards and Connie (Dagner) Edwards.
Greg married LeRae M. Jones on December 12, 2003 in
Murphysboro, Illinois.
He worked as an Ironworker for Edwards Steel. He also was a
volunteer for the Ava Fire Department and a member of the Ironworkers Local #392
in East St. Louis, Ill.
Greg is survived by his wife LeRae Edwards of Ava; one son,
Keatton Edwards of Ava; father, Thomas Eugene Edwards of Ava; two brothers,
Patrick Edwards of Murphysboro, Ill. and Christopher Edwards of Ava; maternal
grandmother, Betty Dagner of Murphysboro, paternal grandparents; Glen and
Caroline Edwards of Ava; mother-in-law and father-in-law; Albert and Julie Gale
of Murphysboro; sisters-in-law; Ashley Gale of Murphysboro and Erin (Tyler)
Camfield and son of DeSoto, Ill., father-in-law; Larry Jones of Dunlap, Ill;
wife’s grandparents; Ruth Wright of Murphysboro, and Oakley Gale of Ava.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Connie Edwards and
maternal grandfather Howard Dagner.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 1:00
P.M. at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Ava. Rev. Clayton Yoakum officiated. Burial was
at Ava Evergreen Cemetery.
James Lula “Miss Pete” Williams
James Lula Williams, affectionately known as Miss Pete, died
Saturday, July 26, 2008 at her home. She was born March 3, 1923 in Belmont, Mo.,
daughter of the late Henry and Odessa Lee Clark. She had lived in Mississippi
County for over 57 years.
She was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church where she
served on the usher board.
On January 10, 1942 she was united in marriage to Johnny Lee
Williams who preceded her in death on June 5, 2004. She is also preceded in
death by one daughter, Jessie Mae Williams, two sisters, Margarene Boyd and
Myrette Sinks and one brother, Jefferie B. Clark.
She is survived by six sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles
and Debra Rose of St. Louis, Henry Williams, Herschel Williams, Michael Dean and
Steve and Amanda Williams of Charleston and Robert L. Williams of Columbia; five
daughters and three sons-in-law, Ernestine and Andrew Anderson, Doris and Ervin
Watts, Loretta and Ron Gary and Alasie Williams of Charleston and Angelene Dixon
of Columbia; 29 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and a host of
great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Friday, August 1, 2008 from 7:00 p.m.- 8:00
p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral services will be held
on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the First Baptist Church located at 301 South
Main in Charleston at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Wiley Reed, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
Don Regnold Reynolds
Don Regnold Reynolds, 67, a resident of Charleston, passed
away Monday, July 21, 2008 at 2:45 p.m. in Memphis, Tennes-see.
He was born April 10, 1941 in New Madrid County in the Barnes
Ridge Community, the son of the late Robert Regnold Reynolds and Lorene Lillie
Moore Reynolds McMinn. Don had lived most of his life in Mississippi County. He
was a retired Truck Driver, having been employed by Schott Trucking in Advance
over 10 years. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, he attended
Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkan-sas.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and
Hadden of Fayetteville, Arkan-sas; one daughter, Davy Lee of Memphis, Tennessee;
one brother and sister-in-law, Reid and Cindy McMinn of East Prairie; one
sister, Diane Rey-nolds Harwell of Memphis, Ten-nessee; two grandchildren; and a
host of relatives and many friends.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Robert Regnold
Reynolds; his mother Lorene Reynolds McMinn; and step-father J.C. McMinn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 11 a.m.
in the Shelby Funeral Home Chapel in East Prairie with Bro. Steve Johnson
officiating. Burial followed in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Bisher, Charlie Allen, Ron and Bill
Watts, Kevin Harwell, and Ronald Carter.
Honorary Pallbearers were Sam Oliver and Larry Wasson.
John Preston Dever services
John Preston Dever, 72, of Louisville, Ky. died on Friday,
July 4, 2008.
Mr. Dever was born in Charleston, son of the late Barry and
Lucy Dever. He attended Charleston schools. The South-ern Baptist Church of
Charleston got him interested in becoming a minister and helped him get an
education. He graduated (BS 1957) from Missouri School of Mines in Rolla,
University of Louisville (MA 1969) and (BD 1962, Ph. D 1969) Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary (SBTS) in Louisville. Mr. Dever served in the US Naval
Reserve and was pastor of several churches in Kentucky and Alabama. He was a
retired Professor of Church and Community at SBTS where he taught for 13 years.
He was chair-person of the Church and Community Department and held the Endowed
Chair: William Walker Brookes Professor of Religion and Society until his
retirement.
Previously he was a Professor of Religion and Sociology at
Averett College, Danville, Vir. for almost 20 years and Dean of Institutional
Research and Records. In Danville, he served on the School Board for many years.
He supervised several Ph. D students and taught Research Methods to Doctor of
Ministry students for over a decade. He was a popular guest lecturer at area
academic institutions and churches.
Mr. Dever was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church,
Louisville, where he served as a deacon, Adult Sunday School teacher, and
founder and con-vener of the church’s Post Graduate Seminar for Clergy. He was
active in mission ministry in rural Kentucky and in inner city service projects
at SMBC. He was a member of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion,
the Religious Research Asso-ciation, and the Southern Baptist Research
Fellowship. He also published numerous profession-al research articles and
scholarly book reviews.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Dever, daughter Michelle
Deaton (Todd) of Greenville, S.C. and daughter-in law, Wendy Dever (Barry) of
Gainesville, Fla. Other survivors include grand-children Laura and Caleb Deaton
and Barry Dever, Jr. and sister-in-law Violet Thurmond of Edgewood. He had
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Barry H. Dever, Sr.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2008
at St. Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Ave, in Louis-ville, Ky.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews
Baptist Church Missions Ministries or American Diabetes Association.
