We have a new item in the farm section of the Museum and I am
wondering how many of your descendants of farm families remember this name?
CRAFT SEED AND GRAIN COMPANY, EAST PRAIRIE, MO.
Ruth Moriarty Greer brought this large cloth sack to the
museum, found among some things her Dad (Herschel Moriarty ) had stored.
It held a large amount of D.& P.L.14 Cotton Seed and on the
sack was a large V done in red and inside the large V was the name Delta Heart.
So, who remembers Craft Seed and Grain Company, where was it
located in East Prairie and how long were they here? Not having "smarts" about
farm operations I just don’t remember it. But I called my sister-in-law, Mrs.
Juanita Anderson and she does remember her Dad buying and planting that cotton
seed on his Pinhook Farm.
Could this grain dealer have operated out of one of the
cotton gins here in East Prairie?
Just wanted to jog your memories - some of you from farm
families will surely remember.
We have an interesting past in the area around the Prairie.
After all, we are only about 125 years old. Lots of families settled here, some
moved on, some stayed.
If you have not already bought your copy of the DVD (can be
played on your television DVD) of Historic Pictures of East Prairie, we will
soon be sold out. Mrs. Helen Harper of Slidell, La. called me yesterday, asking
that I mail one to her and her husband, Thomas.
The family of Thomas Harper were early settlers of this area
and left their mark here.
Helen is the daughter of Earl Corbin and his wife. They
repaired lots of shoes and boots in their Shoe Shop on Pine Street. They were
good at it.
For friends of Thomas Harper, he has had a heart by-pass
surgery and complications followed, but he is slowly recuperating.
If some of you would like to send a card, you can call me for
their address.
Don’t forget, we had only 50 of the DVDs made and we have
sold over half of them already.
They are $20 if purchased here and $25 if we have to mail them. You will
enjoy them. The Enterprise-Courier did a fantastic job making them for us.
